I Will Try To Fix You

"When you try your best, but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I…

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I…

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you."

"Fix You" by Coldplay
I’m writing from a very dark place right now. I know I’m in my "big bad hole", "having a depression session", "dealing with some issues", "going through a rough patch" (whatever you wanna call it – fact is - I’m depressed right now). I know I’m REALLY sad when I listen to this song, and it’s playing on a loop now, so I know things are bad. But it’s funny (read "dark and twisted sense of humour") how we all have our little niches. Some people think vodka makes them sad, but brandy makes them randy. Other people know their sad after they’ve eaten an entire slab of chocolate in on go. I have my music. When I just cannot listen to a happy tune, I know I’m in trouble.

But that’s what friends are supposed to be for right? They are there to fix each other and to help each other. That’s why God (or whichever higher power you believe in) placed us in family units, also to take care of one another. But somewhere along the lines society got it wrong and now people are breaking each other down. Bullies run rampant causing all kinds of damage. Where are the "fixers" - the superheroes of today? All you need to do is go up to that girl crying in the bathroom stall next to your at school and ask her if she needs to chat. If she wants to talk to you then listen, her story is probably one of intrigue or she wouldn’t be so upset. If she doesn’t want to talk, you can know she will still feel better knowing a complete stranger cared for her when it seemed to her as if nobody in the world did.

So if you feel broken or lost or hurt, there are help lines to phones and shrinks to see, but there are also people right next to you. You might think they don’t care, or think they are part of the problem, but I reckon if you just told someone you need to chat about a problem, they would listen and try to help. If we give people the chance, more of us could be heroes. So give someone a chance to be a hero and to fix you, everybody has at some point sung along to this song!
